THE VOICE OF
LIBERIA'S YOUTH
SINCE 1974
The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) is the national umbrella organization representing young people and youth organizations across Liberia. Established through an Act of the Liberian Legislature in 1974, FLY was created to provide a unified platform for youth leadership, representation, advocacy, and national development.
For more than five decades, FLY has served as a bridge between young Liberians, government institutions, civil society, and international partners — ensuring that youth voices are recognized and included in conversations that shape Liberia’s future.
Today, FLY continues its historic mission of organizing, empowering, and amplifying the voices of young people across Liberia’s 15 counties.
Our History: A Legacy of Youth Leadership and Service
The history of Liberia is deeply connected to the energy, resilience, and aspirations of its young people. Recognizing the importance of youth participation in national development, the Liberian Legislature established the Federation of Liberian Youth in 1974 as the official coordinating body for youth organizations in the country.
From its founding, FLY was designed to bring together young people from diverse backgrounds and provide a national platform where their ideas, concerns, and ambitions could influence Liberia’s development agenda.
Over the years, FLY has evolved alongside Liberia’s changing political, social, and economic landscape. During periods of national challenges, young Liberians have remained central to peacebuilding, community recovery, democracy, and social transformation. FLY has worked to organize these contributions into a collective movement for positive change.

74%
OF LIBERIA'S POPULATION IS UNDER THE AGE OF 35
FLY represents young Liberians from all 15 counties and works with youth organizations, student groups, community-based organizations, professional networks, and emerging youth leaders. With more than 74% of Liberia’s population under the age of 35, FLY recognizes that young people are not only beneficiaries of development — they are key drivers of Liberia’s progress.
Our Commitment
FLY remains committed to building a Liberia where every young person has the opportunity to participate, lead, and succeed. We believe that when young people are empowered, organized, and included, Liberia becomes stronger.
